Dr. Madan Shankar Mishra hails from the family of ardent musicians with the legacy of six generations of the Madhubani Gharana. His father, renowned Sitar maestro Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra encouraged and inducted him into Indian Classical Music at a very early age. His maternal grandfather Late Padmashri Pandit Ram Chatur Mallick, exceptional Dhrupad proponent of the famous Darbhanga tradition played an important role in grooming and mentoring him, besides, Grand Guru legendary Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. Infused with an intrinsic and natural sense of music, Pandit Madanji immersed himself into grasping the art of playing the sitar under the eminent guidance of his father. Mastering the subtleties of playing sitar with patience and perseverance propelled him into prominence and recognition of being one of the brightest sitar players of the country. Melodious presentation of Ragas, deep sense of rhythm, inherent creativity for musical patterns, phrases and tans using Meend, Gamak and other techniques makes him extraordinary musician. He is widely travelled and graced many national and international conferences such as inaugural function of Baba Allaudin Khan Academy, commemoration of World Hindi Conference at Trinidad & Tobago, to name a few. He is a regular guest to conduct classes, lecture-demonstrations and performances across the globe.
