Pandit Barun Kumar Palji, a musical institute in himself, started learning sitar, at the age of 5, from your father and elder sister. At the same time he started taking lessons on Hawaiian slide guitar as well.
He belongs to a family of talented and distinguished family of classical musicians. At an age of 6, he made presentation in front of our first prime minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Since then, he has rendered several solo performances in country and abroad.
In 1972, he became the first A Grade artist in light music and 1973 A Grade artist in classical music on slide guitar. From that very time, he has been a torch bearer of Indian Classical guitar manufacture by Babasindhu Biswas.
In 1978, he took discipleship from Pandit Ravi Shankar. Based on his talent, together with his Guru, he delivered many historical performances. Besides, he is an important pillar of Ravi Shankar Center.
Established by Pandit Ravi Shankar ji’s Guru, Baba Alauudin Khan he is an important member of the 3rd generation of Maihar Gharana.
On Pandit Ravi Shankar’s 80th birthday, highly evolved and developed version of Indian Slide Guitar, “Hans Veena” made by Vishan Das Sharma of Riki Ram Sharma & Sons was given to him by his Guru. This instrument has become integral to the history of indian musical instruments.
World over, you he is the pioneer and mentor of Hans Veena and Indian Slide Guitar.
Walking on the footsteps of his Guru, he is forever teaching and mentoring the students.
