Shruti Sarita Art organized a Grand online series commemorating 100 years of Bharat Ratna and Music Maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.

 “A Tribute to Music Maestro” was made memorable by the 3rd and 4th generation musicians who played the raagas created by the Sitar virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar. The series Grand Finale was made by Pandit Ravi Shankar’s foremost disciple, Pandit Barun Kumar Pal and the pioneer of Hans Veena.

Pandit Barun Kumar Pal belongs to a family of talented and distinguished family of classical musicians. At a mere age of 6, he made a presentation in front of our first prime minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.  Since then, he has rendered several solo performances in the country and abroad.

In 1978, he took discipleship from Pandit Ravi Shankar. The musical offering was indeed soulful where he presented Raag Jogeshwari in Alap, Gat, Jod, Jhala.  He concluded the series with Self composed tune in Manj Khamaj.

 About Artists:
Inspired by her parents, at a young age of nine years, Abanti Bhattacharjee started learning classical music under the guidance of Vidushi Purabi Ganguly. Subsequently, she got mentored by Vidushi Shreela Bandhopadhyay. She also had taken talim as a disciple of Vidushi Purnima Sen.
A post graduate in vocal Classical from Rabindra Bharati University, she has won many prizes, awards and scholarships including National Scholarship, GOI, MHRD.
Besides pure classical, she took training from Vidushi Dalia Rahut to also master semi/ light classical vocal music, and she proved herself as an exponent of 'Purab Ang Gayaki'.
Abanti ji is a two time recipient of 'Girija Devi Puraskar'. First in 2013 and the second time, for her excellent performance in 'Purab Ang Gayaki Utsab' organised by 'VSK baithak' the prestigious ‘SARVOTTAM KALAKAR-GIRIJA DEVI AWARD’ in 2017. She received this award from the lotus hand of the legendary Padmabibhushan Girija Devi ji.
Abanti ji has been associated with Rabindra Bharati University as an external examiner. She is a regular performer of All India Radio as well as in many prestigious concerts and workshops across the country.

 About Artists:

An accomplished khayal vocalist of the Gwalior, Agra and Jaipur-Atrauli Gharanas, Dr. Vikas N. Kashalkar hails from a family with music tradition. It was from his father, Advocate N.D. Kashalkar (a noted musicologist and writer) where Dr. Kashalkar received his basic talim, or training, in classical music. He then received advanced talim from Pt. Gajananrao Joshi, a renowned exponent of the Gwalior, Agra, and Jaipur-Atrauli Gharanas and a noted violinist. Dr. Kashalkar's singing is reflective of his systematic training, known by musicologists as "Talim Ka Gana." His melodious voice and intricacies of taans are praised by both listeners and experienced vocalists alike.

Dr. Kashalkar has performed extensively around the world, apart from India. He is featured regularly on All India Radio as a Grade A Artist and also performed on Doordarshan. He has also composed many bandishes across a vast variety of ragas. Dr. Kashalkar's singing style is influenced by not only his guru, Pt. Gajananrao Joshi, but also by Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, SurashriKesarbaiKerkar and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Apart from singing khayal, Dr. Kashalkar is well versed in other genres of classical and semi-classical music, such as thumri, tappa, bhajan and more. Apart from being a skilled vocalist, Dr. Kashalkar is a renowned musicologist and teacher. He has penned a number of published articles, and has given lectures worldwide. He has also conducted extensive research about the effects of music therapy. Dr. Kashalkar is frequently sought after as a teacher, and he teaches not only students in India, but also worldwide. Many of his students have been awarded PhDs in Indian classical music.
